   Overview

The ACE Climbing Experience
The New River Gorge is one of the best mountain and rock climbing sites on the east coast. Recognized for the high quality sandstone cracks, faces and aretes, as well as the wide variety (over 1,600 routes listed to date) of climbs, the NRG has some of the finest rock climbing around. The climbing areas are divided into two zones. The Upper Gorge, where most of the climbing is at ACE Adventure Center, features private climbing up to 80 feet, with routes ranging from 5.5 to 5.10. The Lower Gorge has miles of canyon rim national park service cliffs from 50-150 feet, with routes ranging from 5.7 to 5.12. In the Lower Gorge, park service guidelines limit group size to 12 people per location, with a 4:1 climber/instructor ratio. It is recommended that large groups climb on ACE property.

If you’re a novice, try ACE’s half and full-day guided trips. ACE’s experiential format gets you right out onto the rock! ACE Climbing School works hard to ensure that your experience is the finest possible. Their experienced, well-trained guides use the finest equipment. This year they have expanded their climbing areas on-site within the Upper New River Gorge. ACE has beginner-friendly climbs and with the expansion, have found a variety of moderate climbs and more challenging routes, too.
